How Can I Improve My Health? (Part One)
Applying Biblical Truths to Your Health
“Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore, honor God with your bodies.” - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
I’m certain you have heard the aphorism “your body is a temple,” but perhaps you did not connect it to the Bible verse above. Your body is not just any temple, but the temple of the Holy Spirit whom you have received from God and your actions should treat it as such. In this seven-part series of essays, we will explore some of the ways you can be a better steward of this gift from God, your body. How can you improve your health?
At the start here, I must state that this is not intended to be an exhaustive study on the subject of health but rather an introduction to how make the most of this incredible, divine gift. Here are my Seven Keys to Health that I revealed in my book The Great Christian Health Awakening. I am presenting these Seven Keys in the order of their importance to me at this particular moment. In other words, the things that I probably need to do the most work on. That order may change tomorrow and the next day. You may find a different order of significance for yourself. The order is not really significant.
Here is Key 1:
I suppose to many it will seem strange to begin a discussion about the health of the physical body with a somewhat intangible, non-physical phenomenon, gratitude. Psalm 103:2-5 phrases it this way, "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." We should not forget who gives us life and health; it is God. If for no other reason than out of politeness and respect for someone who gives a gift, we should be grateful to God. Thank God at least daily for your continued good health. If you are below the level of health you desire, know that God is the source of all health and desires for you to accept his gift. Thank him in advance: “Father God, I thank you for the perfect health you have ready and waiting for me, in Jesus name, Amen.”
